The Gaon Soloists don’t begin with repertoire. They begin with a question: what happens when young musicians from very different paths — different traditions, different tempos, different ways of hearing the world — decide to make something together?

The answer is music that feels less like a performance and more like a conversation you’re lucky enough to overhear. Every voice with something distinct to offer. Every voice given space. Nothing smoothed away.

That’s where this season begins. Come ready to listen.

This special season-opening concert is FREE and open to the public, generously sponsored by Moravian University Arts & Lectures. No ticket is required; for CMLV subscribers, it is a complimentary bonus performance added to the six-concert season.

“We stand together at the center of music.”

Gaon Soloists is a chamber music ensemble founded in 2021, bringing together musicians with and without disabilities to perform as one group. Led by music director and violist Yoo-Young Kim, the ensemble comprises professional classical musicians who maintain active performance careers both in South Korea and internationally. Gaon Soloists is dedicated to artistic collaboration without distinction between disabled and non-disabled artists.

The name “Gaon” means center or middle in Korean, while “Soloists” is the plural form of soloist- a musical term referring not to an accompanist, but to someone who takes center stage as the principal performer. The ensemble is committed to artistic excellence in classical music and embodies the philosophy that everyone, regardless of disability, deserves to stand on stage as a leading artist.

Through integrated performances by artists with and without disabilities, Gaon Soloists promote greater awareness and understanding of disability while supporting the professional artistic careers of musicians with disabilities.
