Run, do not walk, to the Bohemian Trio’s return engagement on the CMLV stage. Our audience left the group’s 2023 concert with a salsa in its step, exclaiming “awesome” and “fabulous,” thoroughly charmed and highly entertained. “Latin jazz” only begins to describe their scope in terms of culture and genre, and the advertised saxophone/cello/piano instrumentation hardly explains the rhythmic, percussive, and innovative effect of their sound. Taught at Cuba’s Escuela Nacional de Arte, Juilliard, Yale, and the Manhattan School of Music and currently teaching at Harvard and Vassar: their “cred” is classic. Their repertoire can even, sometimes, be classical. Saxophonist Yosvany Terry also plays the chekeré, a percussion instrument made from a hollowed gourd and covered in beaded netting. Pianist Orlando Alonso helped reinvent New York’s Village Gate as a club venue for classical, rock, and DJ’d performances. Cellist Yves Dharamraj has a holographic AI avatar. Sons of the Caribbean, they are New York based and globally renowned.
