The Jack-in-the-CreArtBox, when it pops up, is guaranteed to be surprising, while promising to be meaningful and accessible. Conceived in Spain in 2006 as a “project” and established in New York city in 2013 as a bandoneonist-violist-cellist-pianist-flutist-dancers-visual artists performing group, currently the CreArtBox is chock full of performances, productions, programs, festivals, series, residencies, commissions, global touring, streaming, podcasts, magazines, and an online store where you can order caps, t-shirts, and tote bags. The basic chamber music performing quintet features flute, piano, violin, viola, and cello, often theatrically enhanced by multi-media projections and multidisciplinary interpretations. Concerts are typically “interactive,” and audiences may expect to be “immersed.” A non-profit organization with a strong sense of mission, CreArtBox “creates and produces live art performances, fusing classical and contemporary music with original ideas encouraged by interdisciplinary interaction.” Through collaborations with individual musicians and other artists and in partnership with a wide variety of cultural organizations, in the words of its mission statement, CreArtBox endeavors to support, create, make accessible, inspire, educate, revitalize, and nurture.
