The Jupiter String Quartet

By April 1, 2022April 29th, 2022No Comments

Nearly twenty years ago, when Jupiter was preeminent among the night’s shining planets, four young musicians formed a string quartet and named it Jupiter. The stars have been aligned in their favor ever since, as the ensemble has garnered honors and awards, prestigious bookings, and audience acclaim throughout North and South America, Europe, and Asia.

“The Jupiter String Quartet, an ensemble of eloquent intensity, has matured into one of the mainstays of the American Chamber music scene.” – The New Yorker

Having grown up in the nurturing context of musical families, the artists are now passionate about inspiring the next generation of musicians and audiences. The Jupiter is its own musical family, literally, as one violinist and the violist are sisters, and the cellist is their husband and brother-in-law. An entourage that often includes children and grandparents further emphasized the family feeling that intensifies musical communication among the players.

In residence for three years at Lincoln Center’s Chamber Music Two, the Jupiters have been Artists-in-Residence at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana since 2012.
